Dr. Glen's Story
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Dr. Glen Stephen Gillis, 59, of Denton Texas on Friday, November 3, 2017, as a result of a heart attack.
Glen was born August 22 1958, in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia and initially moved to Red Deer Alberta before his move to Gainesville and later Denton Texas.
Glen graduated from Saint Michael High School in Glace Bay and went on to further his studies at the University of North Texas where he earned his Doctorate (PHD) in Biochemistry --- one of the proudest moments of his life.
This was followed by a lengthy career most currently as Vice President of Research and Development at Lily of the Desert.
Glen married his best friend and soulmate Janel Stoffels on September 23, 2006. Together they travelled and enjoyed life to the fullest. And Janel brought the greatest joy and comfort to his life. Together they made yet another home beyond Denton in Hill Country where they would have many escapes together.
He is a dedicated father to his sons Stephen and Ryan Gillis of Gainesville Texas. Glen has one grandson, Kaden Gillis, and this little boy was a source of immense love and joy to Glen.
Glen was pre-deceased by his parents John and Theresa Gillis (Mullins). He is survived by his adoring sisters Lynn Francis, Lorain Nightingale (Richard Smerdon), Diane O'Reilly (George) and was idolized by his brother Brian Gillis (Marlene), nieces &nephews Emily, Katelyn, Beth and Weston.
He was deeply loved by his extended Stoffels Family: Cindy and Jim Gehrig; Donna and Rex Simmons; Pam and Joe Dangelmayr; June and Chuck Bartush; Mark Stoffels, Chris Stoffels; Craig and Connie Stoffels, Connie Rheams and Jill Humbert; Sally and Tim Bologna, and 30 Nieces and Nephews.
A service to celebrate Glen's life will be held on November 10 at 10am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Muenster with Fr. Ken Robinson celebrating. Services are under the direction of the Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home in Lewisville Texas.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to the Registered Education Savings Plan for his grandson Kaden. Donations can be made through a Go Fund Me account at https://www.gofundme.com/In-Memory-of-Dr-Glen-Gillis.
