Funeral services for Jerry Daniel Bacon, Sr. will be held at 10:30 AM Friday may 12 at the First Baptist Church of Gordonville. Rev. James Raffety will officiate. Burial will follow at Mt. Tabor Cemetery with Brett Kaylor, Ted Mordecai, Todd Booher, Bobby Tharp, Bill Caver, and Jim Carter serving as pallbearers. Mr. Bacon, 72, passed away Wednesday, may 10 at Texoma Medical Center.
Jerry was born October 14, 1944 in Dallas to the late Thomas L. Bacon and Dessie O. (Simpson) Bacon. On December 23, 2002 he and Shirley Mitchell were married in Gainesville. Jerry spent over 30 years in law enforcement, retiring from the Cooke County Sheriff's Office where he had Head Investigator.
Jerry was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gordonville. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and golf carts, fishing, and cooking. Jerry was a fantastic cook and was instrumental in the legalization of driving golf carts on public roads.
Mr. Bacon will be remembered as a loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife Shirley of Gordonville; three sons, Tony Lumus of San Antonio, Jerry Bacon, Jr. and wife Crystal of Pound, VA, and John Taylor and wife Christy of Crandall, TX; one daughter, Carla Turner and husband Billy of Sadler; sister, Linda Cloer and husband Donnie of Gainesville; son-in-law, Terry Thomas of Sherman; one cousin; 13 grandchildren; and one great grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Sylvia Thomas; and two brothers, John David Skaggs and James Glen Simpson.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday at Waldo Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. The register book can be signed online at waldofuneralhome.com.
