Keith Magee

David Keith Magee departed this life due to complications of a stroke, Friday the 9th day of March, 2018. He was born on July 6, 1957 in Gainesville. He was preceded in death by his father Edward Franklin Magee, Jr.

Keith is survived by his mother, Leita "Lee" Mary (Betancourt) Magee, sister Debbie Floyd, nephew Matt Burkholder and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Also, he is survived by his Schnauzer and companion Buddy.

Keith attended Gainesville High School, where he was a member of the choir, and graduated in 1975. His interests included music, photography, and especially writing. Keith then attended the University of Texas School of Journalism. After graduating college, he worked at several Texas newspapers over the years and most recent the Managing Editor at the Wharton Journal-Spectator in Wharton, Texas.

Keith moved to Wharton 2011 and instantly became a part of the community. He never missed a Java Jam and would keep his friends updated on local happenings. He was a true Longhorn and always let the Aggies know. Keith spent hours at his work making sure his journalism skills were polished and only the best for the Journal-Spectator. Though the quiet man he was, he has left us with many words on paper that will keep his spirit alive. Keith will be greatly missed by the Wharton community of friends who in many ways were like his family.

A graveside service is scheduled for 2:00 PM on Wednesday, March 14 at Fairview Cemetery, 710 Fair Ave., Gainesville, Texas 76240. The service will be conducted by Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home and officiated by Rev. Larry Kremling. Mr. Magee will lie in repose at the funeral home the afternoon of Tuesday, March 13.

In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to the American Heart Association or Noah's Ark Animal Shelter, 2501 N. Weaver, Gainesville, Texas 76240.
