Graveside services for Murl Lois Johnson of Whitesboro, TX are set for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, 2017 in Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta, OK, with Rev. Jerry Turner officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Marietta.
Mrs. Johnson was born in the Loves Valley Community of Love County on April 8, 1936, the daughter of Lucious McBride and Minnie Mae Youngblood McBride. She passed away Saturday, June 3, in Texoma Medical Center, Denison, TX, at the age of 81.
A graduate of Thackerville High School, Mrs. Johnson worked at the shoe factory in Gainesville, TX and a can factory in Santa Cruz, CA as well as serving as a foster grandparent at the Texas State School for more than 25 years. Murl enjoyed traveling and did so extensively with the Foster Grandparents Association. She also loved playing bingo, listening to gospel and country music, and arts and crafts, especially making quilts, blankets, and dolls. Her other hobbies were watching baseball and researching genealogy.
She is survived by a son, Homer Clayton Thomas and wife Darla of Claremore, OK; brother, W.J. "Dub" McBride of Saint Jo, TX; sister, Leota Jewell Clark of Whitesboro, TX; grandchildren, Nathan J. Thomas and wife Leslie of Verdigris, OK and Alacia K. Thomas of Claremore; and great-grandchildren, Thorne Nathan Thomas, Christabel Anne Thomas, Gentry Taylor Hamilton, and Skylar Clayton Grisham.
Honorary bearers are Michael Clark, Paul Clark, W.J. McBride, Paul Riley, and Charles Hilton.
Time of visitation for family and friends will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
