Robert Walter Grewing
On Feb. 3, 2019 Robert (Bob) Walter Grewing passed away at the age of 60. He was born Feb. 1, 1959 in Gainesville to Walter (Hooker) and Carol Ann (Klein) Grewing.
Robert went by many nicknames like Blue, Blue Ribbon Bob, and Blue Bob that he got from winning blue ribbons pole vaulting, Blue is the one that stuck. He played football for the Sacred Heart Tigers and after graduating in 1977 received a full football scholarship to Tarleton State University in Stephenville. He worked in the oilfield, for the railroad, at Bordens, Peterbuilt, and in pool construction.
Robert loved his dogs, the outdoors, collecting guns, arrowheads, and NASCAR. He knew more than the average person when it came to hunting, fishing, and sports. H could always get a laugh. Blue was well loved and will be greatly missed by those who knew him.
Robert was instrumental in the restoration of the Chapel of Our Lady at Subiaco Abbey, that had collapsed in 1888. The Chapel of Our Lady houses the Columbarium. It was completed in 2013 in honor of Eddie and Lucy Hess.
The Abbot Leonard and the Subiaco Monks were sadden by the loss of Robert. Robert visited the Monks often and would go to Mass Vespers with them and left a lasting impression on them with his work abilities and his smile.
Among those who will remember Blue are the grandchildren of Kellie. He loved spending time with Adonis, Alanna who he nicknamed "Wannabear," and Aria.
He is survived by mother Carol Grewing, of Muenster; sister Mildred "Mo" Maxwell of Bedford; and brother Brian Grewing of Dallas.
Robert was preceded in death by his father Walter Grewing and brother Curtis "Curt" Grewing.
Family requests that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Sacred Heart Athletic Department.
