Funeral services for Velda Eugenia "Jean" (Jones) Moore, 94, longtime Gainesville resident, most recently of Waco, are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Johnny Cox officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Gainesville. The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday prior to the service.
Mrs. Moore passed away November 17, 2016 in Waco.
Jean, one of twelve children, was born November 22, 1921, with her twin brother Valton Eugene "Doc" Jones, to James H. and Mattie (Clift) Jones in the Mountain Creek Community north of Saint Jo. She attended Mountain View School and later Saint Jo School. Jean married Melvin Jay Moore on February 3, 1940 in Gainesville. She was a homemaker and well known for her creative needlework. She had a giving heart and never met a stranger.
Survivors include: daughter Peggy Aston and husband Bill of Waco; daughter Sherry Cox and husband Johnny of Travelers Rest, SC; daughter Phyllis Biggar and husband John of Austin; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; sister Hope Chambers of Ennis; brother Pete Jones of Gainesville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by: her parents; husband Melvin Jay Moore in 1994; sisters: Marie Tafte, Hattie Monroe, Margarette Shelters, and Anna Prather; and brothers: Clift Jones, Woodrow Jones, Valton Eugene "Doc" Jones, J.B. "Hick" Jones, and Paul Jones.
Serving as pallbearers are: Craig Biggar, Charles Marshall, Robert Marshall, Marc Jones, Ricky Cason, Charlie McBride, Tim Jones, and Terry Jones.
