Viola "Marie" Grimes, 91, formerly of Gainesville, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 11, 2016. She passed away suddenly and peacefully in Tyler surrounded by family.
Marie was born March 3, 1925 to Frank and Grace Steele in Bridgeport where she attended school. Marie fell in love with Leland Tillman "LT" Grimes by seeing a photo of him in Army uniform and waited for him to return home from World War II. They met and later married in Ft. Worth on December 24, 1945 and were happily together for 67 years until his homegoing in 2012.
LT & Marie moved to Gainesville in 1960. Marie was a devoted homemaker of four children, and later worked as a nurse's aid in Muenster. In 2003, they relocated to Tyler.
Marie was known for her faith in God and exuberant joy which showed in her constant smile and contagious laugh. She loved to read the bible and prayed for every member of her large family every day.
Marie enjoyed gardening, crocheting and walking. She was full of life, fun and blessed to have excellent health & live independently. Her wit and humor showed most when spending time with family and playing games, where she was fiercely competitive. Marie was delicate, but a resilient tower of strength. She never spoke a negative word about another but was kind and showed God's love and grace to everyone.
Mrs. Grimes is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Danny Burris of Whitehouse; son and daughter-in-law Charles and Pamela Grimes of Gainesville; son and daughter-in-law Tom and Carma Grimes of Cedaredge, CO; 9 grandchildren & 23 great-grandchildren who knew her as Maw Maw; one great-great grandchild on the way; many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters and three brothers; her husband LT Grimes of Tyler; daughter Donna Borden & grandson Darin Grimes of Gainesville, and great-grandson Grayson Burris of Montrose, CO.
