WALTER C. VINCENT, JR.
JULY 23, 1925 -
NOVEMBER 23, 2016
On Nov. 23, 2016, Walter passed from this life at the age of 91. He was born in Thorpe Springs, TX, on July 23, 1925, to Walter Vincent, Sr. and his wife Lula Elizabeth Edgin Vincent. Walter (known as W.C. by all in his youth and by his family throughout life) was the oldest of 4 siblings.
At the age of 18, Walter was drafted into the army, serving overseas in Europe during World War II. Upon his return from the war, he took out a G.I. loan and paid his way, and his younger brother Mac's way, through the University of North Texas. Walter went on to receive his Master's from UNT and later his doctorate in education from Baylor.
Walter had a 37-year career in education, starting as a classroom teacher, coach, and bus driver. He became a principal and superintendent at many schools in Texas. His last superintendent's job was with Gainesville ISD from 1979-1985, where he retired. After his retirement, he opened a used car lot in Gainesville. He kept it open for almost 20 more years. Many of his old friends liked to hang out there and drink "coca-colas." Walter was rarely without one.
Walter is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Jo Anne Vincent of La Jolla, CA, his daughter Candace Zangoei and son-in-law Hooshang of La Jolla, CA, son Walter Vincent III of Oregon, grandsons Michael Zangoei and wife Lindsey of Dallas, TX and Parker Zangoei of San Diego, CA, and two great-grandchildren Zander Zangoei and Nora Zangoei.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that you make a "tribute" donation to The Alzheimer's Association in honor of Walter. You can do this through the website http://www.alz.org/. A private memorial will be held at a later date.
