Funeral Services for Jimmie Tom McDonnell, 90, of Whitesboro, Texas, will be held Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Whitesboro, Texas with Rev. Mike Flanagan officiating, assisted by Rev. Ken Hildebrand. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Jimmie Tom passed away Wednesday, January 4th at Wilson N. Jones Hospital, Sherman, Texas with his loved ones by his side. There will be no scheduled visitation.
He was born to Worthy Clinton and Mildred (Cunningham) McDonnell on February 9, 1926 in Whitesboro, Texas. Jimmie Tom served in World War II in the 591st Field Artillery of the 106th Division in France and Germany. After the war, he returned to Whitesboro and joined his father in the home and auto business. Later, he moved to Dallas and was Assistant Credit Manager for Titche-Goettinger Department Store. On November 1, 1956, he went to work for Security National Bank in Whitesboro as Cashier and worked there until the bank closed on December 1, 2016. He attended Austin College in Sherman, Texas. Jimmie Tom loved to sing! He was invited to sing at various functions and at churches. He was devoted to his church ministry in both the First Baptist Church and First United Methodist Church of Whitesboro. He attended the True Grit Bible Study and was a father figure to so many in the area. He was a father to Brian and Lynne Shadden and grandfather to Ashlyn and Ethan Shadden. Jimmie Tom loved his extended Bank family and all his customers through the years. He was always lending a helping hand to anyone in need. You never heard him say an unkind word about anyone.
Pallbearers will be Todd Kisslingbury, Curtis Clark, Mark Labhart, Weldon Morgan, Doug Rodgers, Mike Case and Ethan Shadden.
Surviving Jimmie Tom are the Shadden's; sister-in-law, Juanita McDonnell; nephew, William Clinton McDonnell and great nephew, Dr. Brad Rue and wife, Rebecca.
He was preceded in death by his parents, W.C. and Mildred McDonnell and brother, G.C. McDonnell.
The family would like to thank Dr. J. M. Benson for his long dedication and care, as well as friendship to Jimmie Tom. Jimmie Tom wanted to say this to the Shadden's: You have made my life complete and I love all of you with all my heart. Thanks for everything!
