Raymond Joseph Wilde was a generation and lifelong resident of Muenster, TX. He was born on June 18, 1922 to Joseph Bernard and Loretta Eberhart Wilde. He was the oldest sibling to two sisters, Gladys and Laurie. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School as salutatorian in 1940 out of the second graduating class. In the fall of 1940 Ray began his college education at St. Mary's University in San Antonio Texas. He was in the Reserve Officers Training Corpse and served in the military during WWII. He also served in the European Theater of operations in Wales, France, Belgium and Germany. Ray returned to the US in 1946 as technical sergeant, and was discharged into the army reserve corpse with honors in May of 1946.
Ray Married Marcella Schmitz on July 23rd, 1946, in St. Peter's Church of Lindsay Texas. They would have celebrated their 70th anniversary in July. They had six children, Daniel Ray, Janice Kay, Joan Frances, Tina Marie, Gregory Allen, and Renee Kathleen.
Ray began his career in 1946 selling life insurance and later started Wilde Insurance Agency, adding all lines of insurance. He began working with his father at JB Wilde Chevrolet Company and became a partner with him and eventually became sole owner. In 1961 Wilde Chevrolet was built on Highway 82.
Ray was always actively involved in the Muenster community. He was a member of the Lions Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Knights of Columbus, and served on the Muenster ISD Board, Finance Committee of Sacred Heart Church, and Muenster Industrial Foundation. He served as president of the Muenster Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the United Fun Drive for Muenster, and Sacred Heart Debt Retirement Fund Drive.
During his abundant time here, he was so proud to have established a family with 24 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral Mass is set for 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 20, 2016, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Muenster.
No graveside services will be held.
