Robert Dale "Rebb" Smith
On July 1st 2017, Rebb Smith passed away at Allina Health Hospital, in Buffalo, MN, due to complications with his ongoing battle with cancer. He was born on July 2, 1968 to the late Janie Dale (Baker) and David Smith of Gainesville, Texas. Rebb was a member of the 1986 graduating class of Gainesville High School and during his tenure there was active in many clubs and organizations. During his youth, Rebb served honorably in the Gainesville Chapter of the Order of the Demolay. He also loved to draw, and worked as a graphic designer for several years. Upon graduation from Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, Texas, Rebb worked as a Home Health Nurse in east Texas caring for others until his diagnosis in early 2016. In 2004 Rebb married Jacqulyn Lofton, together they share a daughter, Reagan. Rebb was dearly loved by his close and extended family, many lifelong friends and others whom he touched over the years. He will be deeply missed.
Rebb was preceded in death by his grandparents, R.D. and Zella Baker, and his mother Janie, all of Gainesville, Texas. He is survived by his daughter, Reagan of Brownsboro, Texas, his father, David, of Gainesville, his brother and sister-in-law, Slade and Heather, of South Haven, MN, his sister, Tori, of Gainesville, his step-brothers, Jason, Eric and Rusty, all of Gainesville, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Rebb will be interred at New Rest Haven Cemetery, next to his mother and grandparents. There will be a memorial service at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Gainesville, Texas on Friday, July 14th at 2 PM under the direction of Fr. Jeff Stubbs, rector, after which, many of his family and friends will gather, at a place to be determined, to share fellowship, memories and stories in Rebb's honor.
