Billy Wayne Herrington Obituary

Billy Wayne Herrington was born September 13, 1938 in a farmhouse outside Tishomingo, Oklahoma to Elon Preston Herrington and Nora Lee Craft Herrington. Six years later they moved to Cotton Center, Texas, then two years later to Plainview, Texas where he graduated from Plainview High School in 1957.

He entered the U.S. Army in 1958. While serving at Fort Sill, Oklahoma he met Nancy Lee Spears. They married in November 1959 and had three sons: Steve, Mark, and Jeff.

Bill graduated from Wayland Baptist College in Plainview on the G.I. Bill. He taught Mid-management at Cooke County College from 1975 until retiring in 1998. He continued as a substitute teacher for Cooke County schools.

He met Ollie Sue McDonnell at a teachers conference in 1995 and married in June 1996. Thirty years together created one big, beautiful blended family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Elon and Nora Herrington, older brother Larry Gene Herrington, son Mark Gregory Herrington, and nephew Brad Herrington. He leaves behind his wife Ollie Sue Herrington, brother Eddie Joe Herrington (his wife Sue and son), son Steve (wife Rebecca, and 2 children), son Jeff (and three children), daughter Carrol McKnight (husband Jerry and four children), daughter Suzan Heydenreich (and four children), son Sam Clark (wife Melissa and one child) and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services are scheduled for Saturday, February 1, 2025. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM, followed by the funeral service at 10:30 AM, both at First Baptist Church, Gainesville, TX. Interment will follow at Collinsville Cemetery, Collinsville, TX. You may register condolences online at www.geojcarroll.com.
