Charles Ray Hunter Obituary

Corinth - Charles Ray Hunter, 85, of Corinth, TX, passed away May 25, 2025 at his home surrounded by loved ones. He was born on January 5, 1940, in Marysville, TX to James and Clara (Vessel) Hunter.

Charles graduated from Gainesville High School in 1960. He married the love of his life, Mary Lee Dennis on June 17, 1961 at Harvey Street Baptist Church of Gainesville, TX. He worked for Frito Lay for 27 years; prior to that he worked for A & P Supermarket in Irving, TX. In his retirement he worked as the cross guard for his grandchildren's school. He was a member of Southmont Baptist Church of Denton, TX. Charles loved spending time with his grandkids, loved yard work, watching the Texas Rangers play, building bird houses, carpentry and fishing.

Charles is survived by his wife, Mary Lee Hunter of Corinth; son, David Ray Hunter (Kathy) and their children, Trent, Taylor and Trevor; daughter, Donna Hunter Houghton (T.J.) and their children, Jessica Ferguson and Tyler Houghton; seven great-grandchildren; and close family, Bill Hunter, Don Hunter and Wanda Hunter King.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Junior Hunter (J.J.) and Buster Hunter; and sister, Mabel Cannon.

The family will receive friends at Southmont Baptist Church of Denton, TX, on Thursday, May 29, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home of Gainesville on Friday, May 30, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. with Bro. Brad Cockrell officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery of Gainesville.
