Forestburg - It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of David Michael Atkins, age 77, of Forestburg, TX on Sunday, June 8, 2025. David was born on January 15, 1948 to Bill and Dorothy Atkins.

David Atkins will be remembered for his kindness, laughter, and the love he shared to many. A celebration of life will be held on June 28th at 11:00 AM at the Forestburg Community Center.

David was a graduate of Denton High School and attended Tarleton State University on a baseball scholarship. While he originally set out to obtain a degree in veterinarian sciences, he pivoted in 1969 to pursue a career in construction. Professionally, he had an illustrious career and was respected by many in the steel business. He played a key role in many prominent projects, such as the Dallas AT&T, Indianapolis Lucas Oil, and other NFL football stadiums, the Denver Symphony Hall, and others.

He is survived by his wife Elaine Adair Atkins who he was married to for 55 years, his children Matt & wife Christina Atkins, Amy & husband Dudley Boyd, Sean & wife Jana Atkins and Ginny & husband Michael Carter. Known as Poppy, he was especially fond of his grandchildren: Jake Atkins, Cara & husband Derek Slater, Jackson Atkins, Lily Atkins, Lainey Boyd & fiancé Angel Serrano, Will & wife Emmanuelle "Frenchy" Boyd, Maddie Carter, Abby Carter, Luke Peretti, Clay Peretti, SJ Atkins, Claire Atkins and great grandchildren, Liam Boyd, Cade Slater. To the numerous cousins, nieces and nephews who cherished him dearly as a gentle giant, he was simply known as Uncle David. He was preceded in death by his mother Dorothy Atkins, father Bill Atkins, brother Don Atkins and sisters Diane Thomas and Debbie Griffin.

David Atkins will be remembered for his kindness, laughter, and the love he shared to many. As the patriarch, he leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories, unconditional love to his family and unwavering friendships to everyone he met.
