Muenster, Texas - Edmund (Eddie) H. Fleitman 93, passed away on June 19, 2023. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM on Friday, June 23, 2023 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Joseph Keating officiating. Rosary and Vigil will be held at 6 PM on Thursday, June 22, 2023 at Scott Funeral Home in Muenster with Father Joseph Keating officiating. Pallbearers will be: Josh Isenhour, Randall Martin, Phillip Martin, Mathew Fleitman, Don Fleitman, Richard Gebken, James Lynn, and Conner Gebken.
He was born on November 13, 1929, in Muenster to Alois and Emilia Wiesman Fleitman. He attended Sacred Heart School, and as a young man, he worked in the oil fields and traveled with thrashing teams to harvest crops. He enlisted and served one year in the U.S. Air Force.
Eddie married Maryanne Bauer on April 12, 1951, in St Mary's Church; they were together for 72 years. They operated a Grade A dairy north of Muenster for 26 years. In 1977 they moved west of town to the property where Eddie lived as a child. There they raised beef cattle and chickens. Eddie worked for the Muenster Livestock Barn and was treasurer for Muenster Farm Mutual Fire Insurance for many years.
Eddie enjoyed singing and was a member of the Sacred Heart Church Men's Choir. He was active in the Knights of Columbus #1459 and was a 4th Degree member. He served as Grand Knight 1972-73 and later served as District Deputy for District 47 in 1978-79. He played the accordion and led singing while waiting for Santa Claus to arrive at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Eddie served as board member on the Muenster Independent School Board of Trustees from 1973-83.
Eddie and Maryanne were instrumental in organizing the Muenster Community 4-H Club and served as sponsors for 12 years. He worked as a leader for the 4-H Horse Club and was also active in the Gainesville Riding Club. Eddie and Maryanne enjoyed many years traveling in their RV. He loved woodworking, fishing and enjoyed hosting the family on the farm for holidays and playing Christmas songs on his accordion. Eddie was a true Muenster Hornet sports fan.
Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Herbert Fleitman, and a daughter, Mary Lou Fleitman. He is survived by his wife, Maryanne of Muenster; his children Allen Fleitman and wife, Debbie of Gainesville; Lenora Isenhour and husband Gene of Copperas Cove; Larry Fleitman and wife Rachel of Flower Mound; Charlotte Martin Droll and husband John of Italy, Texas; and 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Three sisters also survive him: Betty Felderhoff, Eileen Krebs, and Lorine Strassberg and numerous nieces and nephews.
