Gray W. Shelton Obituary
Gainesville - Gray Westbrook Shelton passed peacefully from this life on November 9, 2025, following a brief illness.
He was born on November 23, 1941, in New York City to D.W. and Marie Falkenberg Shelton. His father was attending graduate school there, and the family soon returned to Texas, where Gray spent his childhood.
Gray served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1962. After his service, he worked at the Denton Record-Chronicle, where he met his future wife, Janell Odom. They were married on May 20, 1965, and shared 57 years together before her passing in 2022.
While attending North Texas State University (now the University of North Texas), Gray operated a dairy farm. After earning his undergraduate degree, he went on to the University of Texas School of Law, graduating in 1971. He became board-certified in estate planning and probate law and practiced in Denton for more than 40 years.
Gray loved playing cards, dominoes, and chess and enjoyed traveling, reading, white-water rafting, bowling, and spending time with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janell, and daughters Holly Shelton and Coleen Miller. Survivors include daughters Kristina Sipp (Bryan) of Sanger and Keri Shelton of Denton; grandchildren Gabriel Shelton, Paisley Sipp, and Posey Sipp; and siblings Doris Coberly and John Shelton (Janet) of Denton, Richard Shelton (Rebecca) of Pleasanton, Texas, and Robert Shelton (Dee) of Berea, Ohio.
