Kathy Jane Brown Obituary

Gainesville - Kathy Jane Brown, of Merkel, TX, was born on September 6, 1956, in Gainesville, TX to Kenneth Elwood and Prudence Jane (Wilson) Selby. She passed away peacefully at her Merkel residence on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at the age of 68.

Kathy was an only child and graduated from Muenster High School. She then attended North Central Texas College in Gainesville. Kathy worked at several different positions, but her busiest and proudest was raising her three daughters. She had to wear the Supermom cape as she traveled numerous miles to attend livestock shows and life events as her girls grew older and started having families of their own.

Kathy married Dustin Brown on January 5, 2005, in Gainesville. Together, they owned and operated DK Brown Farms, which helped Kathy continue the tradition of going to more livestock shows and sales. This journey put more miles on as they traveled between their homes in Midland, TX, Merkel and Lamoni, IA. They continued to raise and sell their red angus throughout Texas, Oklahoma and Iowa.

Kathy loved to be around her family, although small, it meant the world to her. Keeping up with everyone's activities was a chore in itself. Dustin and Kathy loved to travel on quick weekend getaways and often longer stays, and usually one or more of the kids, grandkids and/or great grandkids were tagging along with them. These trips included Galveston, TX, Fredericksburg, TX, Branson, MO, Oklahoma City, OK or wherever a cattle show might be going on at. One of the best trips was to the family ranch that was on the Missouri/Iowa border, close to Dustin's hometown of Mt. Ayr, IA, where the grandkids got to just run around in the yard, go fishing, and just being able to get away and enjoy something different. The memories made on those trips will last a lifetime for all that were able to go.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents.
