LaVern Lucy Nortman Obituary

Lindsay - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church with Fr. John Martin officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery. A Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home of Gainesville with a visitation to follow.

LaVern Lucy Nortman, 88, of Lindsay, Texas passed away surrounded by loved ones on April 16, 2025 in Lone Grove, Oklahoma. She was born on October 19, 1936 in Lindsay, Texas to Henry and Katie (Schmitz) Fuhrmann.

LaVern graduated from Lindsay High School in 1955 and then went on to marry the love of her life, Harold Nortman on April 12, 1956 in Lindsay, Texas. She was a housewife, a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Catholic Church where she sang in the St. Cecilia Choir for many years and was a member of the St. Anne's Society. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and enjoyed painting, making and repairing rosaries, square dancing with Harold, country music, gardening and bird watching....especially cardinals! She was a hospital volunteer, 4-H Adult Leader, Religion Teacher, and an expert seamstress. She was widely loved and will be missed deeply by her friends, family and community.

LaVern is survived by:

Children: David Nortman (Barbara), Danny Nortman (Linda), Deana Tharp (David), Debra Neu (Bobby Ballard). Grandchildren: Michael Nortman (Brandi), Jennifer Dunn (Jacob), Stephen Nortman (Lisa), Amy Holcomb (Adam), Amber McDonough (Joe), Katie Alaniz (Seve), Jenna Tharp, Stephanie Hennigan (Chris), Cammi Twiner (Wayne), Courtney Stockwell (Zach), Ryan Neu (Summer), Savannah Ballard (Erick), Lexie Ballard. 21 Great-Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: Husband, Harold Nortman. Parents: Henry & Katie Fuhrmann. Siblings: Damond Fuhrmann, Sister Catherine Fuhrmann, Lucille Hess, Brother Louis Fuhrmann, Louis Fuhrmann. Grandchild: Grace Tharp. Great-Grandchildren: Atlas Hennigan, Huxton Twiner.
