Rhett Arawa Davy, 67 of Sherman, Texas passed away October 23, 2021 of a heart attack at Texoma Medical Center.
He was born May 5, 1954 in New Zealand to Jack and Jessica Davy. He moved to the United States in 1979. He obtained his GED and began his academic journey at North Central Texas College, known then as Cook County College. He went on to obtain his BS, MA, and PhD from the University of North Texas where he also served as a teaching fellow. He began his career as a Sociology professor at North Central Texas College in 1993 where he continued to work until his death. His priority, beyond teaching the curriculum, was to introduce students to the intellectual life and to inspire critical thinking and curiosity. He is beloved my many colleagues and students. He was an avid crossword puzzle worker and life-long reader of National Geographic.
He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sister, Gay Martin of New Zealand, wife Marla Davy, his beloved mother-in-law Nancy Prichard, four children, Murphi Davy, Alex Lurry, Molly Lurry, Elle Lurry, nieces and nephews, and the most interesting, eclectic group of friends and colleagues a man could have.
At his request, there will be no formal funeral service but donations may be made in his memory to the North Central Texas Collage Faculty Scholarship and the Shay Ledbetter Scholarship.
"Curiosity is the wick in the candle of learning." William Arthur Ward
