Thelma Ruth Chaffin Obituary

Thelma Ruth Chaffin, 83, affectionately known as "Mimi," passed away at her home in Valley View, Texas, on October 5, 2024. She was born on January 9, 1941, in Gatesville, Texas, and was the only daughter of Marvis Pearl, née Gaston, and Harley Monroe Ables.

After Thelma married, she joined the workforce in various jobs, including manufacturing, office management, and bookkeeping. She retired from GTI as a telemarketer. Later, she would serve as Treasurer for the Pioneer Baptist Church in Valley View.

Thelma is survived by her husband, James Chaffin of Valley View; daughter, Tina O'Hara of Eufaula, OK; three sons and daughters-in-law, Freddie Petty and wife Laura of The Colony, Bobbie Petty and wife Connie of Gainesville, and Jimmy Lee Petty of Valley View; two step-children, Joni Chaffin of Garland and Jimmy Chaffin of New York City; and two brothers, James Harley Ables of Twenty-nine Palms, CA, Willie Benton Ables of Rhome. She also leaves behind love and a legacy of eleven grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren who survive her. She is preceded in death by her parents, Marvis and Harley; a son, Gary Don Petty; and a brother, Ronnie Gene Ables.

A visitation for Thelma is from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, October 11, 2024, at Coker Funeral Home in Sanger. Funeral services are at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at the Pioneer Baptist Church in Valley View. Pastors Kenneth Reiter and Chris Watson will officiate the services. Interment will follow the services in New Hope Cemetery.
